I did a little digging online this morning and found a few resources I'd like to share.
Laser Engraving Shops (online):
http://www.laserguys.com/
http://lonewolfdist.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=4701
http://www.chuckaroos.com/guns.htm
Not lasers, but some really cool rifle stocks:
http://www.revivalindustries.com/revival_002.htm
I'm willing to bet that if you can find an online example of what you like you can take it to a local laser engraver and they can do it for you without worrying about shipping.

Re: Laser Engraving
it was just text engraving so nothing to do with refinishing. I took it in that morning and picked it up that afternoon. They were a bit freaked out when i asked if they could engrave on a gun slide. I had to assure them that i would not be bringing the "entire" gun, just the part to be worked on.Target1911 wrote:You said it is lazer etched right? Will it ware with the finish? Did they have to do any type of refinishing? Can you explain the process at all?

Re: Laser Engraving
Here's the engraving after we got it back from the shop. It's not as elaborate as the flames, but i'm sure my mom will flip over it none the less.
The quality on this photo does NOT do the job justice. It looks pretty sweet. I just wish there was more room on the slide.
Our family last name is engraved on the other side of the slide in script. Not shown for obvious reasons.

Laser Engraving
Just wondering if any of you folks have looked into this or not.
Just picked up a Taurus 92 as a gift for my mom and am having it laser engraved today with two phrases "Don't Tread on Me" on one side and our last name on the other.
Have any of you ever had your pieces engraved thusly? I'm seriously thinking about having the same done with my Taurus 24/7 as well.
Will post pictures later today when it's done.
