I agree. I've ridden in the back of more P/Us than I can count. However, after having seen children who were thrown from the back of a P/U, rolled on ,crushed and literally torn apart , I would not let a child ride in the back of one.bblhd672 wrote:Those were the "good old days". As a kid we rode in the back of pickups all the time...sometimes standing up and leaning against the back of the cab until somebody's mom or dad would notice and tell us to sit back down. Nobody really thought much about it. By the time we were in 7th grade, several of my buddies and I would take off on our own on the weekends and spend the nights on the river fishing and hunting...we all had .22 rifles and shotguns by then. I got my first motorcycle when I was in 8th grade, as did several of my friends, and then we expanded our range of adventuring to cover the whole county. Our parents trusted us to be careful (rarely) and use some common sense (even rarer). I really don't know why they did, but our parents trusted us to be careful (rarely) and use a little common sense (even rarer), but somehow we all managed to survive our high risk childhoods with just a few stitches and a cast or two. We did a lot of stupid things, but occasionally we did learn something worthwhile from our mistakes. I treasure having had the freedom to grow up that way, and I wish kids today still had some of those opportunities.

Re: Seatbelt Ticket
I always comment about the seatbelt law being the beginning of the nanny state...lol.
No, the fist laws of the nanny State were those that mandated that the public in general had to provide food, shelter and healthcare for those who did not provide those services for themselves. There always exception which I am willing to provide for.....children, disabled vets or any other innocent member of society.

Re: Seatbelt Ticket
When I was young and dumb I had too many beers at the Chicken one night. On my way home I took a left too sharp and went skidding on the bench seat ending up on the passenger side of my P/U. I had a 3/4 ton GMC with a granny low M 465. The truck just kept on chugging along with no one behind the wheel. Fortunately, I lived in the country so I just went chugging through an open field. Glad I didn't do that in a populated area.carlson1 wrote:It was always my understanding the Government was supposed to make laws the keep you from hurting me and me from hurting you. As many of these people that are taken to the County hospital and treated on our dime......it is protecting us.RogueUSMC wrote:I always comment about the seatbelt law being the beginning of the nanny state...lol. I wear one and always have for the most part but...

Re: Seatbelt Ticket
I can't fathom not wearing a seat belt in a vehicle. We seem to have people ejected and rolled over by their vehicles on a weekly basis.. Seat belts do save lives. What is worse, are all the kids running around and standing up with no car seat in the car......human projectiles.
