Re: New Patrol Rifle time
It's not an NFA problem - it is more of a keeping it simple thing while they try and meet demand.C-dub wrote:I didn't realize the 14.5 inch barrel was that big of a problem as long as the flash hider was permanently affixed to reach the 16 inch mark.gigag04 wrote:The hitch is the 14.5 LW barrel. Good price too.
I emailed DD seeing if I can order one like that. If not, I may end up doing an upper/lower pairing.

Re: New Patrol Rifle time
Yup. Heard back today. And they won't do it. PredatOBR is heavier than I want. Changing gears and looking at a BCM Recce 14. For around $1300, it's looking like a solid follow up choice, though I'll loose out on the LW bbl. I have an e-mail out to them to see if I can get the LW bbl, Surefire MB55k, and no mags.Carry-a-Kimber wrote:Good luck on that, lead time on normally configured rifles is around 20 weeks right now, no telling what the timeline on a custom rig will run.gigag04 wrote:Made a decision -

Hopefully it will be in my hand in < 6 wks time. I'm going to call Laure tomorrow.

Re: New Patrol Rifle time
Made a decision -
I'm going to order the Laure PredatAR
...but I want a 14.5 LW bbl, and have a Surefire MB556K pinned and fixed. I also want the hand guards gut down to about 12" instead of the 14.75".
For optics, I currently have an Aimpoint Comp ML3 in a tall Larue mount. I'm either keeping it and adding the Aimpoint 3x mag, or going move to a T-1/H-1 micro...I'm undecided but have time.
Hopefully it will be in my hand in < 6 wks time. I'm going to call Laure tomorrow.
Reasons to go this route:
Larue has top quality gear, some of the best IMHO
Laurue is a Texas company
Larue has the absolute best reputation for standing behind their gear
The PreadatAR is a top quality rifle that is super lightweight, ready out of the box, and under $1500 (possibly less with LE discount)

Re: New Patrol Rifle time
Nice buy indeed.C-dub wrote:Ended up getting it for $1250 and his last pmag he had on the wall. His ammo was high at .50/round and I was going to pass and check Walmart, but he threw in two 20 boxes of some 55gr Federal stuff.
I shot 20 rounds today. First three were high and left. Adjusted the sights and put the next 3 in the bull. COOL! Moved back to around 30 yards from about 15 for the rest. Nice rifle. I'm happy.

Re: New Patrol Rifle time
I'm thinking RUC 14.5. But it would be a hard call.

Re: New Patrol Rifle time
Depends on the optics. I had a fixed front sight on my LMT piston, and I setup an Aimpoint Comp ML3 on a higher mount, so the iron sights co-witness in the bottom 1/3rd of the optic. There is a train of thought that says having the fixed sights cowitness with the optic is preferable so that in the event of optic failure, you do not have to remove the optic and flip up the sights. I could go either way on it TBH.C-dub wrote:BTW, what is that big fixed front sight for anyway? Does it serve any other purpose? I think I like the cleaner look of the guns without it. Plus, isn't it in the way if other optics are added onto that top rail?

Re: New Patrol Rifle time
The EAG is ok but I would get the RUC or the Larue first. Not super as to why, but that's my initial impression.

Re: New Patrol Rifle time
Mine are all .55s. I imagine 1/7 is popular because it's "spec". Larue is shipping a 1/8 I think on the PredatAR.

We use gold dots and are given 50, but I also have a go bag with TAP, ball, and green tip mags along with med supplies.

Re: New Patrol Rifle time
Spikes Tactial has an excellent showing though...but the LE6920 is not that differently priced with better resale.
Oh decisions...

Just curious why they didn't reply here:

This chart has been long discussed since the first version back in 07 and it is clutch to learn for anyone who wants a working gun.

Re: New Patrol Rifle time
FOR ME, better rifles are out there than the RRAs. They are pretty but I've never been that impressed with them. Their 2 stage triggers are decent though.C-dub wrote:All this rifle talk is getting me itchy again. I saw a few RRA Elite Operator 2's just under $1k. How would something like that stack up against the models listed here?
