In Chilis in terminal A (IAH) now. Sroth - I did not see it in time but...
Nobody checked anything. The ticket agent said oh cool, sign here. Then wait down here for 5 minutes. If no one comes out for you, you're good to go.
I put a smaller shackled lock on the case, left a mag in (oops), and locked the outter pocket zippers with the small lock that came with the bag (TSA approved...I think).
I'll post a follow up on the return flight.

Re: For those who've checked a handgun
Copy that. So...use my little gold lock for the zippers then?tomc wrote:I don't know what airline you are using or where you got the above, but I would NEVER use a TSA lock anywhere at anytime. Just about everyone has a TSA key. Unless this has changed and I don't think it has, no one is supposed to have access to any of your locks but yourself. See the many quotes by our resident TSA expert, "jimlongley".Jumping Frog wrote:Just make sure that the lock for the pistol case is NOT a TSA lock, while the lock on your suitcase holding the pistol case IS a TSA lock.
I know it is counter-intuitive, but that is how they require it.
Do I seal it with said lock after they wave the magic wand?

Re: For those who've checked a handgun
Dangit. Where do I get a TSA lock? I have just have a small gold master lock to loop through the zippers. Can I get it at the airport?Jumping Frog wrote:Just make sure that the lock for the pistol case is NOT a TSA lock, while the lock on your suitcase holding the pistol case IS a TSA lock.gigag04 wrote:Confirming this conforms to their guidlines.

Also - should I leave the whole thing unlocked on the way up, and so I can do the whole show and tell thing for TSA?

Re: For those who've checked a handgun
Thanks. They barely honor LEOSA. I have to go to HNL PD and register the gun within 72 hours of being there. I'm going to use it as an excuse to swap patches with them, but kind of irks me a little bit.74novaman wrote:He's carrying under LEOSA.sookandy wrote:I think you are good to go, however they do not honor a TX CHL do they?
And yes, that should be sufficient. Congrats on the wedding and enjoy the honeymoon.

Re: For those who've checked a handgun
If they get in the suitcase, they could just take the case. It's barely bigger than a dollar bill.USA1 wrote:Looks good. The only thing is that they might think the lock is too long allowing the case to be opened just enough to get the pistol out....you know how picky TSA can be.

For those who've checked a handgun
Confirming this conforms to their guidlines. Flying AA to Hawaii (HNL) on Sunday. Gun is unloaded. Will be packed in a softside (I know...all we have) suitcase which will also be locked.
