It memorizes the placement of the seat, mirrors (excepting the rearview on the windshield) and gas pedal. When set up properly and you click your key fob they move to the appropriate positions. The Annoyed Man wrote:That sounds like what happens whenever my wife borrows my car. She NEVER remembers to put the seat all the way back. She uses it all the way forward. I can't even get into the car that way. Re: I guess enough time has passed...
Yeah excaliber got it right. The cars are numbered to organize the fleet, but we are referred to by our unit identifier which is a combination of our shift (day night evening) and our sector.

Good to know that the 25 ten code is universally recognized!
It wasn't a big deal - we have fun on the radio now and again. I eat "lunch" (whatever meal at 0130 am is) with our dispatchers now and again to keep the peace.
"don't call me radio nintey-one"

srothstein wrote:I thought I would give you another tip if you want to embarrass an officer while they are eating. Did you know the siren will not sound while the PA mike button is pushed in? This is true even if the siren switch is in the on position so you can override the siren to give instructions to someone via the PA.
And in most patrol cars, the PA mike will stretch to the driver's door. The door and seat cushion may be close enough to wedge the button down while holding the mike there. Well, it is close enough until the driver opens his door anyway. Then things tend to get very loud very fast.

If someone runs out of the report writing room to take a hot call and stays logged into the computer, we like to e-mail the chief a letter of resignation. There have also been emails sent out with all sorts of confessions. I got one today which said the officer wanted to email us and let us know he always wanted be a star in a musical.
The motto is always log out.

Re: I guess enough time has passed...
The worst part was after I called it off, I tried to call the guy to discreetly trade cars...
His phone starts ringing in the car so he left it. Great. Now I have to punk myself out on the radio and say "hey do you wanna meet and trade cars back..." This is after the whole dept was listening to our chase on the radio.

I guess enough time has passed...
A while back, I make a traffic stop in the middle of the night. I can tell the driver is intoxicated, and he's also being verbally combative. I have a second officer swing by before I get him out for the SFST battery. My partner that shows up is 6' 7", and used to do tough guy competitions....he's laid back but huge. I'm about a foot shorter than he is. Anyway, so I ask this guy to step out and he doesn't. He puts his vehicle in drive, and speeds off.
My partner and I initiate a vehicle pursuit. I run back to what I think is my car, jump in and haul out. Not many other cars are on the road, but I still don't feel it is safe to match his speed, and he had a good jump on me. After the first few blocks, I'm driving and giving info on the radio, and I realize I'm pretty much dangling from the steering wheel. I look further and my rear is on the front 3" of the driver's seat, and I'm amazed that I can reach the pedals.
By now most of you realilzed what I did....
I mean...all the cars look the same...what....
On the video in my car, you can hear my partner get in, cuss, stop, adjust the seat back, and take off again. Thought you guys would enjoy a story that inspires confidence in your local LE.![clapping :clapping:](./images/smilies/clapping.gif)
