People carrying concealed weapons will not always be attacked by another human outside their home. It could be an animal or a pack of them. Consider the case of the late 76 year-old Lillian Stiles of Thorndale, Texas. She was riding her lawn mower on in late November 2005 when she was fatally attacked by a pack of dogs. She was found laying in her yard with bite marks all over her body.

Milam County sheriff's deputies said she had been attacked by six pit bull-Rottweiler mixed-breed dogs owned by a man living less than 500 yards away. If you didn't know about this story, you can read it at the following URL:

I am not sure if the Castle Doctrine is relevant or not in the case of having to defend against animals other than humans outside the confines of your home, but I would hate to be targeted by PETA or some other special interest groups for saving my life against an animal attack. I just can't see a LEO arresting someone for protecting themself against a dog or wild animal attack of this magnitude but I have seen PETA go after people with cruelty to animal suits. They've even harassed bass fishermen at tournaments even though there is a law against that.

Another Self-Defense Nightmare Story

There is another story this morning on MSNBC.com about another person who defended himself in self defense, and then again in the court room. The story link is below....

‘Stand-your-ground’ laws causing confusion
Judge threw out self defense case because rules too difficult for jury

Know the law verbatim in the state(s) you carry in. Go talk with your lawyer before you have to defend yourself. Make sure you and he/she works out a plan in case something does happen requiring you to defend yourself with force or deadly force. People with plans are more successful than people without plans and that is not limited to self defense issues.
