I don't go around calling my ARs battle rifles, but maybe because of my brief time in the Marines I do think of them as battle rifles. TBH my custom built AR is much nicer then the M16 I was issued in Boot, only difference is not burst fire selection, which I think we were only allowed to shoot once during Boot anyways.
May I take a stab and say its not the term that bothers you, but probably more likely the type of people running around using it ?
