Elm Fork, eh? I've shot skeet and sporting clays there, but I've never had a look at the handgun/rifle section. Always good to hear of a place I can bring my FAL to shoot - would anyone know if they allow FMJ?
According to a guy involved;
I know the issue of FMJ has come up and I discussed the subject with the owner. When the rifle range opens it will be FMJ FRIENDLY. Common sense prevailed to sound thinkers. They will not allow any steel ammo of any kind. If a magnet stick to it you can't shoot it

numist wrote:I haven't thought about that place in years! I first shot there taking a commission class taught by Weldon Alexander in 1984. Long time ago. I went a few times after that and always had fun. Haven't been in a very long time. Sorry to hear that Charles past away. He was a good guy.
Weldon worked with my father at the DSO academy, and taught many of those very classes.

New info. Denise, who owned the range, sold it to the people who do the shotgun side.

They are completely rebuilding. They are going to have steel plates, a shoot house and all kinds of cool stuff.

I have not heard their anticipated opening date, but I imagine it will be worth the wait.

I attended an IDPA match there Wednesday night. Nice looking place. Anyone shoot there?
Elm Fork has been around for years. As a teen in the '70's, my father took me shooting there often. He taught security guard classes on weekends.

The man who ran the place, Charlie Reed, was a great guy. He was stern about safety and was a gruff old man, but he had a heart of gold.

When Charlie died, his son Dennis took over. Lets just say that the place developed a bad reputation for a while, especially among the black rifle shooters.

Dennis recently passed away, and his widow is now running things. She is working hard to improve the image of the place, and she is very black rifle friendly.

If you need a one hundred yard rifle range I recommend it.

There is also a nice shotgun range with Skeet and trap on the other side of Elm Fork; although, it is owned by somene else.

Did this Charlie Reed ever move to Wood County, Texas that you know of?
