Have there been ANY cases of a person even arrested for intentionally failing to conceal for only an inadverdant shoewng or printing? I would be interested to read about that.flintknapper wrote:txinvestigator wrote:Which will be determined AFTER you have been arrested by an officer who didn't know any better, and then gone through Lord knows what to prove your innocence.DustinB wrote:. That is a false worry and illegitimate argument for open carry. Texas only has a law against intentionally failing to conceal the weapon.DustinB wrote:Excellent point. Would be nice to not have to worry about printing or accidentally revealing your weapon.
And I am more neutral on this issue than I have been. I was completely opposed.

Anyone can carry OC.roscoe46 wrote:I'd like to see OC as option for those who have a CHL.
When i spend my money for the CHL course & pay the license fee,
i feel like i'm showing a certain amount of integrity that you should
be using for carrying a handgun either open or concealed. If you
don't have that integrity you shouldn't have a CHL to begin with.

Thats hogwash.KBCraig wrote:
The historical view is that only cowards or criminals carried concealed weapons. Gentlemen were openly armed. If open carry were made legal in Texas, cowards and criminals would continue to (illegally) carry concealed, to avoid attention and scrutiny.
Kevin
And there is NO data to support your claim that criminals would "only" carry concealed if open carry were allowed for law abiders.

Actually carrying does not give you freedom from predators; it offers your protection from them in the event you are attacked. Freedom would mean they would stay away by virtue of your being armed.cjlandry wrote:"Protection", to me, is freedom from predators who would do me and my family harm. So the two interact.txinvestigator wrote:Not for me. I am not making a statement by carrying. I carry for protection, plain and simple.cjlandry wrote:
After all, freedom is the whole point of carrying, isn't it?
You guys are looking at the open carry from the view point of YOUR ability to open carry, but for the sake of conversation let's take a different look.
Please don't post your answer just to defend your position. I don't believe any of you NEED to defend your position. Carefully consider how you would think, feel and react in this situation.
You are at the Grocery store and there is a real scumbag, gang banger looking dude walking around with open carry.................
You are at an office building and there is a man dressed in slacks, a polo shirt open carrying into a family law attorney's office..................
I fully understand what you're saying about the differences in perception, and I fully agree that it's not necessarily a good choice to open carry. But I don't believe it should be illegal.
