Re: TX: Houston, 16 YO girlfriend accidentally kills boyfriend with his new gun

I'd like to know how old the boyfriend was, and if he was lawfully allowed to own a pistol. Unfortunately, I can't get the link to load. Excerpt Copied from first paragraph in article..... "HOUSTON - A teenager died early Friday morning after what police said was an accidental shooting in sout...

Re: My Firearm Storage Situation

Let me state first so that I am not ambiguous: locking the door to your room is not sufficient with young children around. There is no bedroom door in any of the four houses I have owned that could not be unlocked with either a credit card or a small screwdriver. What if he removed the door handle ...

Re: Arrest Record Question

You need to get final disposition on every arrest and send them in....I had a juvenile arrest from 50 years ago that was only an arrest and release, but had to provide final disposition on it. Not easy to dig up, but it had to be done. After that, no problem, got the card 3 weeks after i sent the pa...

Re: What is a belt holster

Some may take this as rude. I hope not. I am 67 years old and when i was 10 i got a Fanner 50 cap gun. One of the high points is, it came with a holster. For 57 years i have known what a holster is, and now it appears that knowledge is useless. A holster has been defined for decades. A holster worn ...

Re: How long will it take if you have stuff on your background?

Thanks for the input. Any body had background issues and been approved? If so what's you timeline? I had worse background issues than you did. Just get the final disposition of ALL arrests, whether convicted or not, and send them in to satisfy the requirements. 3 weeks after all my paperwork was fi...

Re: Any advice on holsters/safes/storage of handguns while in your car?

I plan on purchasing a small fire safe that will accommodate my G17 and bolt it inside the tool box of my truck. Use blind head bolts to the outside so it cannot be unbolted unless it is un-locked and open. Not the best solution but should work. You could bold it in the truck of your car. Just my ta...

You should never shoot to kill. You shoot to stop the threat.

Re: Question about eligibility for CHL

I had an arrest on my record as a juvenile. 16 years old. I am now 67 and had forgotten about it completely. Nothing done about it, just arrested and released later that night. It was on my record however, as an arrest. DPS wants every arrest justified with final disposition. In my case, I sat six ...

Re: A nice benefit of Texas CHL

There are definitely times the NICS kicks back a 'random' delay through the computer system ( supposedly happens more in the late evening ). Happened to me on one transfer. FFL ran it again 5 min later, came back OK second time. I got one straight thru check out at academy, one delay at a lgs, foll...

Re: Newby Question on Mail in vs. Email

Update. Still no plastic. :cryin today is 3 weeks. But I have refrained from looking online for status change daily. I would take the time to call and stay on hold till you can talk to someone. I sent mine snail mail certified so I could track it. After a week it was still not delivered. Still has ...

New TO CHL forum and CHL

Thought I would drop in and say hello. Got my CHL 6-Aug2015. 67 years old and raised around firearms. Always carried a sawedoff shotgun, but decided to go for the State CHL just because. Looks like a lot of good folks here. Thanks for allowing me to jump in.
