My mom and dad have a 35' or so class A gas that they bought used with 30,000 miles on it. They have had to fix some stuff in the 10 - 15 years they have had it, but have over way over 150K that they have put on it. He did break down and have a new motor put in a year ago when something happened. When they travel, it is for a couple months, and they tow their car. He shopped around quite a bit to see what he liked and wanted. Came to the conclusion of plenty of larger basement hatches, and no slide outs. Slide out can break, leak, etc, and when they are closed, make it hard to get around. He found a layout he was happy with at a great price from someone that didn't like it, but he loves it. When they come visit, they have their own place to stay with all their stuff. In fact, he's showing up for a couple weeks in it this weekend and it is no inconvenience at all.

That being said, for weekend and short trips, it is going to be an expensive option, but if you plan on longer trips, you can't beat it.
