I had a similiar incident many years ago. I was driving to meet a friend for supper, was speeding and got stopped by the highway patrol.
A lady officer came up and I knew there was no getting out of it. She said "Is there any reason you were driving above the posted speed?" I just shook my head and said "No, no reason." She wrote me a ticket and we both went on our way.
I met my friend and we went on over to the resturant near where she lived. Driving up, I see several highway patrol cars in the parking lot.
Thinking to myself, this is some weird coincidence.
As we were being seated, I saw the same lady officer eating at a table across the room, with a lot of other highway patrolmen at her table. I took a detour to my seat and appoached her table. She just took a bite of salad and saw me, recognized me -- and stopped chewing. I read her expression as "OK now what!!"...
I leaned over toward her and with a smile said. "I would have been hear sooner but I was delayed". She thought it over for a split second, and I guess she realized I was joking with her - then she SPEWED salad out her mouth and laughed hard.
I went on over and took my seat. I guess she had to explain the interaction to her buddies, cause then they all laughed too.
I was glad she had a sense of humor.
