I'm in the waiting room, so can't tell yet. I've lived in Texas at the same address for 7 years, so they shouldn't have to check overseas history on me. And you'd think that if they wanted to check me out really thoroughly, they'd pick up the phone and call the INS, they know everything there is to know about me and then some.

For me, getting my legally purchased Glock handed to me at the shop was the final thing that convinced me that I really CAN get a CHL.

What could have caused this, it has us irritated and worried! Thank you for any info that you can offer!
When I got a delay on my first purchase, the dealer said it's not unusual,
and the reason they gave on the phone was "that they couldn't find me in the system".
When I checked on reasons for a delay by searching the net, I found that people like me (resident aliens) get delayed way more often than citizens.
Of course I was worried sick about it. It was driving me nuts that my gun was at the store (I had special ordered it) but I couldn't have it.
The NICS folks called the dealer back the next day, and I got my gun. So the total delay was about 28 hours.

So, don't worry about the delay... it's just time.
