I don't disagree with you...it is a different world. CHL on post/base just doesn't feel right. Sure I could explain better, but I'd probably ramble for several pages.

That said, I was always uncomfortable with the lack of people carrying a live weapon with so much inventory around. Can remember issuing baseball bats to soldiers guarding containers filled to the brim with M60's, M16's etc...

Don't general officers get issued a personal sidearm? Isn't that where the Colt Commander originated? Why couldn't we expand that to include Company/Battalion/Brigade Commanders?

frazzled wrote:Sorry stupid question #2. Why do they have civilians instead of having troopers perform guard duty?
Soldiers are expensive and in short supply. It's all about using the resources you have wisely. Contractors/civilians are less expensive and free up soldiers to train and/or deploy.

Am I correct in that she was a civilian police officer?
This was on the base itself correct?
If so 1. where were the MPs shooting at the guy? 2. How did she get on the base? I am not understanding how this works. :headscratch
DOD police. Lot's of MP's are deployed overseas so the military tends to rely on civil service and contractors to provide security at military installations at home.

The spin started within minutes of the incident. Before ANY facts came out, I noticed two distinct trends from the news reports:

FOX news would insert a disclaimer in their initial reports along the lines of..."there are no indications this incident is related to terrorism..."

MSNBC would insert a similar disclaimer, but theirs said..."there are no indications this incident is related to repeated deployments or PTSD..."

The media had already made up their minds on the final story and were merely waiting on the appropriate "facts" so they could fill in the holes.
