hadn't thought about the "ears poking out" on pancake/slide holsters, but ...some "under belt OWB" holsters are made so they "could" go that way i think if belt loop spacing permits

RETENTION
. none of those are Level 2 or level 3 etc retention for Open carry ...... and so ... I might still go IWB & get the one with the trigger guard catch and just pull up the shirt to open carry IWB with minimum twist-draw retention level 2... (trigger guard plus friction)

Re: OWB and Retention Holster
I know this thread is OWB... I too have been considering OWB because of opencarry; a buddy has always carried OWB concealed.
My body has been blessed with the IWB retention device I call the belt tightener. I was thinking this "stomach expanding retention device" might still work with a holster worn Outside the Waistband, but INSIDE the BELT (Between the belt and pants)
I've IWB carried daily since about 2008
A) I prefer to conceal carry
B) IF I MUST Open Carry, I want some sort of additional retention for my own peace of mind, preferably NOT a thumb strap, for my own dexterity reasons
I have found one IWB WITH RETENTION where if there is a valid 30.06 but no valid 30.07 sign I can
OPEN CARRY IWB with RETENTION >> just pull up my shirt over the holster and still have passive stomach expansion-friction retention from belt tightening AND ACTIVE/POSITIVE retention on trigger guard, yet be IWB
PROFESSIONAL HOLSTER SERIES

Other IWB holsters exist with a thumbstrap retention like> Hero Holsters New Officer Model IWB Kydex Retention Holster
Still thinking wearing a belt over a OWB Pancake/slide holster, instead of the pancake/slide holster over a belt?

or

or
but no "extra" retention device there ...
Still shopping though
I have no affiliation with anyone :)
I'v never OWB carried...
OH wait ... yes I did OWB carry , "concealed" in Wilderness tactical carried a PT92 Taurus, but never open
