She's decided on a ruger ranch in .223, I think. because it's "Customizable"

Any suggestions for a small-framed woman's first rifle?
My new wife has expressed a desire to learn how to target shoot with the intended end result that she'd like to go hunting, etc. she wants, as she puts it 'a really cool rifle that i can learn on that will give me some room to grow, too!' she's 4'11" and weighs 96 lbs, so, I need something that's not going to knock her into the dirt, but she specifically said she DIDN'T want a .22 (she's been watching the military shows and specials about snipers while I'm at work
) so, does anyone have any good suggestions? I tried to get her to fire the nagant m44 I have, but after seeing the bruising on my shoulder after a day at the range, she was less than sanguine about it.
