It's like anything, if you carry it enough you get use to it. And I bet my right leg is stronger than yours. If you need more than 8 rounds you're probably in the military or a LEO. It's easier to carry magazines also. Why would you want to carry a magazine that weighs twice as much as one for a 1911?GlockDude26 wrote:i still for the life of me can't figure out why people insist on carrying a 1911 for self defense period....it must be for the reminiscent feeling of the glory days or something. they're big, heavy, and have limited mag capacity. why would you want a gun that weighs 40 oz empty with 9 rounds when you could get a glock 30s that weighs half of that and get two more rounds? heck i've carried my glock 21 with 13+1 rounds of 45 acp and it still weighs less than a 1911.

I use one of their belts. Nice choice for sure. Just make sure you put some Loctite on the Chicago screws if it has them. One of mine fell off and the other one was loose after several months. I called A&G up to see if I could purchase one, and they sent a couple for free. They suggested using Loctite Blue in the event I decide to go with different belt buckle. You will definitely feel the difference.Jago668 wrote:I just ordered an A & G Custom Gun Leather belt. Will be my first actual gun belt, so I'll get to see how much of a difference it will make.

Why would you want an empty round in the chamber? Couldn't resist.carlson1 wrote:Don't want to take this off topic, but this is a mouth full of wisdom yet some still just don't understand how dangerous it is to carry with an empty round in the chamber thinking they can see the threat, draw, chamber a round, point, and then shoot.ShootDontTalk wrote:
On the other hand, carrying anything with NO round in the chamber is a lot more dangerous.

Re: Carrying a 5" 1911 is hard
I use to think this way until I started thinking. You have a slide safety, grip safety, and you have to pull the trigger. None of those things can be actuated while carrying in a proper holster. You have to draw the gun out of the holster, have a full grip on the gun, drop the slide safety, and pull the trigger to fire the gun. I also use a thumb break holster which adds another layer of safety when carrying cocked and locked for those that think the hammer might malfunction, or get hit and drop. Much safer than carrying a Glock for example.oohrah wrote:I don't carry my gov model, because it's too dangerous cocked and locked, with a round in the chamber. And what would be the point if it was not. So I got a PX4 Storm .45, which I can de-cock to DAO.
I know a little off-topic, but you might want to rethink your EDC.
So please explain why carrying a 1911 is any more unsafe than any other gun.

Re: Carrying a 5" 1911 is hard
I carry mine in a good OWB holster with a good thick gun belt and find it to be very comfortable. Wear loose fitting button up outer shirts and a wife beater to prevent gun and holster from rubbing on bare sweaty skin. Wife beaters are much cooler than most T-shirts. If I'm going somewhere that I have to tuck in my shirt, which is very seldom, I either ankle carry or pocket carry smaller framed guns. Don't plan on changing a thing with OC either.
