Joe, you briefly mentioned the explosion at the school there in 1937.

That explosion killed 295 students and teachers. It is still the 3rd deadliest disaster in Texas history.

The explosion was caused by a leaking natural gas line in the school basement. An electrical spark from a switch set off the explosion. The presence of the gas build up was undetected since natural gas is both odorless and colorless. Within just a few weeks after this disaster, the state of Texas passed a law that an odorant material had to be added to natural gas so that leaks could be detected by smell. That soon became standard practice throughout the nation.

If you're ever in the area, they have a museum and monument and markers with lots of interesting information about this very tragic disaster.
