indeed. That plan to attach campus carry to open carry AND GET IT TO THE GOVERNOR'S DESK had better bear fruit...Jumping Frog wrote:Well I just got off the phone with my representative's office expressing my desire to see HB 937 pass out of the calendars committee. I was told that yesterday was the deadline for the calendars committee, and HB 937 is now dead for this legislative session. So the only viable alternatives left for campus carry are the companion bI'll SB 11 or amending the open carry bill as discussed above.

Re: Campus Carry revived, attached to open carry
I still have hope, but I tell you what, if OC and CC do not pass at this point, it will be a real kick in the teeth to NRA/TSRA and a tremendous boost to OCT/OCTC/etc. It will make Grisham and Watkins look dead-on target with their comments about faux-2A supporters among the Republicans. It won't matter how many of the lesser gun bills get passed, OC and CC are the flagships. They should not be, but they are, and if they go down it will be humiliation.

Re: Campus Carry revived, attached to open carry
I just noticed this article (published today) about the author of HB937, campus carry. He's going to leave the Legislature to run for Sheriff of Harris County:

Scott Farkus wrote:This almost sounds too good to be true. What's the catch? Germaneness?
Mr. Cotton pointed out earlier (in another thread) that the House Parliamentarian has already ruled attaching Campus Carry to Open Carry is germane. There was an amendment by Fletcher to do just that during HB910 second reading, and after it was ruled germane, Fletcher withdrew it. I wonder if he was setting up then for what they are doing now.
My impulse is "Let them go. Don't let them come back." However e Republicans are two seats short of having 2/3 of the membership, 98-52, which is two seats shy of a quorum.Scott Farkus wrote:Democrats throw a hissy fit and run to Oklahoma again?

Re: Campus Carry revived, attached to open carry
The campus carry bill in the House has 57 authors and coauthors. Early on it had more visible support than open carry, altho HB910 ultimately picked up more coauthors. Campus carry also had lots of House support in the previous session, it would have passed then -- if it had come to a floor vote. The problem has been Straus parking it in the Calendars Committee. If a combined OC/Campus Carry bill gets to the House floor, it will pass. This looks like the way to do it.WildBill wrote:This sounds like a good way to kill open carry.
