There was one in Atascosa County in 1999, two deputies killed one at a time, and then a DPS trooper shot -- can't remember if he later died or not, but he was able to radio for help. I think some other officers and a citizen wounded trying to help the trooper. More recently there was one where the son of a police officer swiped his dad's full auto AR-15 and called 911, then ambushed responding officers. Can't remember where it was, but I think it was around San Antonio ("around" meaning within a couple counties).

As a a firefighter/first responder, I regularly find myself knocking on someone's front door in the middle of the night (sometime day, but people call for help more at night, it seems). I always stand to one side or the other. One of my fellow responders, standing directly in front of the door, asked me why I did that. When I told him the look on his face was priceless. I woudl call it "sudden enlightenment."
