By 6:30 p.m. the restaurant was open again and customers said they will continue to go to El Gallegos.

Yes. I am a firefighter too, a vollie, and some joe blow being a firefighter would cut no ice with me if he was trying to take my gun after I was threatened with deadly force.

Now, one of the accounts says a "struggle ensued" after the shot, so if one of the bad guys had his hands on the gun, that changes the perspective a bit. (Also, excellent example of why a BUG or a knife -- or a BUG and a knife -- might be a good idea.
