Just the feel of the IWB was enough, I didn't notice the weight difference at all, even tho I also carry a Hi Power, not one of the lightest guns around. It is one of the things I like about my comptac holster, usually.However, when one does remember to get the gun in the first place, I use a little procedure I adapted from John Farnam's teachings on administrative gun handling. Basically, chamber check, holster, handsweep to make sure no clothing got caught inbetween gun/holster, remove magazine and check that it is charged, reinsert mag, give mag a good tug to make sure it is properly seated.
And yes, get rid of the magazine disconnect. If you are confident of your skills, you can DIY -- I went to Alex Hamilton in San Antonio (and got the action smoothed and the trigger set to 5 lbs).
