Re: 7 killed at Ft Hood shooting

I have experienced the "military lifestyle," for 23+ years, four more as cadet, and another four as a retiree, and there is no good reason that military people cannot be armed, particularly with pistols, in uniform or not, particularly NCOs and officers. It is a matter of will, training and trust. There is also no good reason that CHL holders on base, military, civilian, retiree, whatever, cannot be armed on base or post.

You watch. No one's head will roll because American troops at the biggest army post in the world, directly focused on fighting terrorist-fueled wars on several continents, were left unarmed and without adequate security, and especially with a known risk running around in their ranks. The military has decided it is much more politically acceptable to take casualties like this than run the risk of a ND by one of its armed soldiers or visitors.

Re: 7 killed at Ft Hood shooting

Nobody made Hasan do what he did. He acted alone. If we accept that he was somehow controlled, then we have to accept that Right-to-Life forced Eric Rudolph to bomb abortion clinics. I rejected that: both criminals acted as individuals.
This is complete nonsense. Right-to-Life did not advocate bombing every abortion clinic out of existence. There are multiple calls from al Qaeda and its philosophical adherents, to kill infidels in general, and US soldiers in particular, wherever they are found. By fanatical muslims "acting alone." This is in fact a coordinated strategy, there is communication from recognized Islamic fanatic authorities -- including that imam in Virginia that Hasan went to -- to their followers to do exactly what Hasan did. (And take notice that that same imam is congratulating Hasan. In our country.) Like what happened at LAX in 2000. Like what happened at the Recruiting station in Little Rock this past summer. Like what happened an the New Orleans airport in 2002. Like the vehicle attacks in San Francisco, Minneapolis, and Chapel Hill. Like at Univ of Oklahoma. LIke Malvo and Muhammad (who is going to be executed tomorrow, inshallah.)

Because there isn't an elaborate command and control system and an Ops Plan and a logistics tail a mile long doesn't mean these things are not related. The "commander's intent" is well communicated, and the details are left up to those who want to act on it. This is not lone madman kind of stuff. I can't believe that in a country where more than half the country still thinks JFK was the victim of a plot refuses to see what Islamic fanatics broadcast daily as one of their strategies. Instead, we get crying and moaning over yet another non-existent "backlash."

We will see more of these, and they will get bloodier and bloodier. Pray we wake up before Beslan comes to America.

Throughout my 24 years of service I always marvelled at the vulnerability of most bases to this sort of attack. I always knew and dreaded that someone would take advantage of it sooner or later.
I also am amazed at the ignorance (word being used literally and not in a derogatory manner) that the general public has of just what military life is actually like. We certainly are not the Israeli's with a highly militarized society.
And yes, I think that our leaders don't trust us with weapons on base. Never have.
Yes, Yes, Ditto. I saw the same thing in my 23+ years. I have ranted about this before, to no avail of course. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I appreciate your sentiments, but it is not the first attack on US soil since 9/11.

Just this past June two soldiers just out of basic training were shot by one "Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad" who had "religious and political motivations," ""with the specific purpose of targeting military personnel." One soldier was killed, one was wounded. They were at a recruiting office in their hometown assisting the recruiter. Interestingly, an abortion doctor was killed about the same time. Abortion clinics got federal help with security. AFAIK, recruiting offices got no such help.

In July 2002, at Los Angeles Airport, an Egyptian-American muslim killed two El Al employees and wounded other people before being shot dead by an El Al guard (who got stabbed in the process). I think one of the wounded died later. It took the FBI about a year to conclude that this was probably a terrorist attack.

On May 22, 2002 Muslim convert Patrick Gott screamed out Allahu Akbar ("God is Great!") in the ticket counter area at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans before opening fire with a shotgun.

Also in 2002, Muslim converts Lee Malvo and John Mohammed killed 13 people in the Washington DC area in a series of sniper attacks from their specially modified car.

Joel Henry Hinrichs III, a convert to Islam, was an engineering student at Oklahoma University, planned a suicide bombing in a stadium, but accidently blew up only himself outside the stadium. Police found more explosives in his apartment, which he shared with some muslim students from Pakistan.

In 2006 there were two attacks using vehicles as weapons to run down people, injuring 25 people. One at UNC Chapel Hill using a rented SUV, another in San Francisco using an SUV. (Quick, ban Assault SUVs!) Both perpetrators were muslims. One said he was obeying the Koran, the other targeted Jewish neighborhoods. There was a similar attack in Minneapolis in 2007 -- this driver described himself as a "terrorist."

In 2007 a Pakistani muslim walked shot six women, killing one, in a Jewish Federation center. He said he was angry at Israel.

Five people were killed at a mall in Utah in 2007 by a Bosnian Muslim. An off duty cop killed him before he could be asked about his motives.

These are only the "successful" ones - -there have been a number of plots broken up before they could be executed (e.g. the Ft Dix plot).

Give some blood for me. The Red Cross says the places that Uncle Sam sent me make me ineligible to donate blood. But remember if you go on base to do so... it is a "gun-free" zone. No CHL carry allowed. :banghead:

Wrong middle name?
Good catch. Looking back thru various posts and report, the name reported varied slightly, e.g. Malik Hassan, Malique, Nadal, etc...
