Re: Ak-style rifles

I don't care whose country you or your team was from as long as you were on the right side. Good on you, and really, am glad you are back safe.
AndyC wrote: As for the AK, that's somewhat true - but it really depends how much it bugs you personally; an under-folder would not have been my first choice but it was available and stock-wobble is really a minor issue to me - it's the Indian, not the bow, y'know? I was primarily concerned with 1. reliability 2. ammo-load and 3. sufficient accuracy for the job - in that exact order. Stock-wobble? That's wayyyy down my own scale as long as points 1, 2 and 3 are met.
Good points -- those are why I am looking at it, plus the fact I can buy an AK plus lots of ammo for what I'd pay for just the carbine if I chose certain other models... And since I can choose, at the moment anyway, I'd rather eliminate as many issues, big or small, as possible. Now if it were 'wobbly' AK or no AK at all, I'd go wobbly too (sorry Margaret!)
AndyC wrote: Here's the one downside I found with the under-folder: imagine you're traveling in a vehicle through the badlands, so you fold the stock (so you can wield it inside the vehicle) and then insert a drum-mag; once it's in, you can't deploy the stock without first removing the mag. Try being effective in a sudden firefight with a folded stock - it's not fun.

The above issue really wouldn't be relevant for most folks (how many people actually run an under-folder with a drum magazine anyway?), but it was an eye-opener for me; the side-folder doesn't have that issue.
Yes, I imagine it's not fun finding a glitch at an inopportune moment like that. Ouch. And no, I am not going for the drum magazine. Besides, I am going to get a semi-auto version anyway, it would appear to me the drum would be most useful for when "group therapy" is one of the fire options...

Thanks for the speedy reply, and best wishes.

Did you like the underfolder stock? I would like to get an AK, my reading up on them has indicated that the underfolder stocks are sometimes wobbly, not as solid as side folders. Your opinion?

thx, and also thanks for helping out in Iraq, regardless of whether you were mil or ktr. Glad you're back.
