Once upon a time, churches seemed to be much more......muscular:
Instead, it shows a 1619 statute that required everyone
to attend church on the Sabbath, “and all suche as
beare armes shall bring their pieces, swords,
pouder and shotte.� Those failing to bring their
guns were subject to a three-shilling fine.
