I"m not a lawyer - I was raised better than that* - but I think if you buy property intending to not check its status because a reasonable person would suspect theft, you are over the line.

Buy a burger at McDuck's, no need to check the brand on the cow it came from. A reasonable person would assume the beef was both fake and lawfully sold.

Buy a yearling off a McDuck's cattle truck on the side of a back road, that's maybe something a reasonable person would suspect. It seems like deliberately avoiding the question would almost prove intent, and I'm sure I'd have trouble 'splaining myself in court.

Or so it seems to me.

Re: Ft. Worth Gun Buyback

With one little behavioral modification this could be a nice program.

I'd be behind it if the plan were to show up with a gun that could pass a search for non-stolen, after which you'd get a safety check of the firearm and a $50 firearms training certificate.

Particularly if they kept no records of the serial numbers. Maybe channel that seizure money through the Office of Civilian Marksmanship, too.

Putting lawful guns on the street in at least lightly trained hands is much more effective than meaningless programs to take guns off the street.

Re: Ft. Worth Gun Buyback

Shameful. If it really disarmed criminals I'd be all for it.

It won't, and it will waste taxpayer money.

And it weakens a civil right.
