I keep thinking how many lives could have been saved if someone had been able to shoot back.

Carrying in bars would probably be a much tougher sell than campus carry, but I note two facts.

There are about 10,000 alcohol related traffic fatalities a year.

There are about 500 negligent discharge gun fatalities a year.

If there is worry over possible drunken gun handling, then which is the real threat?

A driver in the parking lot just this side of drunk about to somewhat lawfully hop in his car where he's got MPA rights, anyway, or a sober designated sheepdog inside the bar with a pistol, safe and inert, in a holster?

I don't like to mix guns and alcohol in any way, and I don't like the idea that an armed citizen should be expected to defend anyone but himself and his family. I like much less the idea of unopposed terrorists able to force-multiply their suicides with our good intentions.

If there is going to be a terrorist in a bar, the best thing is for him to be outnumbered and outgunned.
