I'm just the opposite. When my clothes start getting tight, I just cut back on carbs. At 51, I have the same waist size that I did in college.

Bragging is not appreciated around these parts. :nono:

LOL. I hope it wasn't taken that way. I've seen many people frustrated with calorie reduction diets that get new life after instituting a ketogenic diet.

Just joking and envious.
Like everybody, I've gotten into cycles in my life where I got heavy. Sitting at a desk, working 12 hour days, eating junk food and drinking beer to unwind at night, while not making time for proper exercise.

Cutting carbs has always been my way to reverse the cycle.

Looks like I need to keep licking.

In all seriousness, I can see the point he and others are making. I am still trying to confirm the veracity of it and if it's right for me. I fit the guy's profile and have eliminated probably 80% of the flour and sugar from my diet. I still eat fruit, sweet potatoes, legumes and brown rice occassionally. Apparently, that's not strict enough.
Everyone has a different metabolism and means everyone has a different limit of daily carbs to avoid gaining weight. If you want to find your limit. Pick up some Ketostix at the drug store. Cut out almost all of your carbs until you go into ketosis. Once in ketosis, slowly add back carbs to your diet until you are no longer in ketisis. Back off just enough to get back in ketosis and now you know you limit.

Makes sense. A ketogenic diet is also a common treatment for people suffering from epilepsy.

Re: What's causing American obesity and cardiovascular disease?

Have you ever heard the saying "you can't manage what you can't measure"? If you believe that, a ketogenic diet has a great advantage. Ketostix. Being able to test yourself daily allows constant conformation that your diet is doing exactly what you want it to do..... burn existing fat. I don't know of any other diet that can say that.
