Have you tried Hornady Critical Defense? I had the same problem with my UC until I ran into that round, works like a champ in mine. My wife's is a different story. Hers likes the Barnes HP a lot .treadlightly wrote:I have a Kimber Ultra Crimson Carry II given to me by my wife to get me to stop whining about Kimbers. It worked.![]()
The only issue I have is that it's a little finicky with the defensive rounds I've tried. JHP is 100% reliable, so that's what I carry. My guess is reliability issues are tied to the shortened action of my little gun. I know plain old JHP is old school, but I don't feel unarmed.
Well, there is one other issue. Practice with my Kimber is an exercise in futility. I've tried, and I just can't make it miss. If it won't miss, I can't practice effectively. The darn thing shoots a four inch pattern no matter what I do.
The trigger has a little bit of creep, but you don't notice it if you sort of slap the trigger. Since it won't miss, there's no point in squeezing.
Seriously, I like 1911's, which puts me a little predisposed to like any of them. I'm biased. I like my Kimber.
And it's a 1911. If I wanted to get the creep fixed, it's just like a full size 1911 in that department.
Or maybe I don't get out enough. Maybe there are guns a lot nicer - but I like my Kimber.

Awww, you just called Kimber owners ignorant. That's cute.AndyC wrote:I'm sure it sells to those who don't know any better, otherwise Kimber would obviously have been out of business years ago - but that ain't me. Good luck to them.

Re: Kimber Quality?
No argument here. My next 1911 is an STI, and i love my Kimbers.flechero wrote:My kimbers have all been good. Now having said that, if I were in the market for a new one today- I'd look at other brands because I think there are better options available for the same cost. (or very close to it) It seems the value isn't what it once was.
For example: My STI was within $100 of a similarly equipped Kimber... and I don't think you can argue that the STI isn't a better gun.

Re: Kimber Quality?
You seem to have a thing for fitting. Me, I'll take a gun that shoots straight and doesn't jam every time I get a piece of lint in the slide. Good thing we both have options.winters wrote:i have shot new and used kimbers. And their fitting is a joke. I can understand their low end stuff being sloppy but their high end guns seem like they are fitted by someone who doesn't understand machining. they are by no means the worst i have seen but for how much people say how great they are I'm not impressed. And unless your in the high end market like wilson combat its always kimber this and kimber that. like i said i find them to be highly over rated for what you get. I always suggest buying what you like and not always what others say. everyone has their opinion right or wrong. I'm glad we are talking about 1911's and not glocks.lol

Re: Kimber Quality?
The wife and I both carry Ultra Carry II's, purchased a little under a year ago, with no issues whatsoever. They're picky on ammo, but that's more a function of the 3" frame than anything else. They've both got a little over 1k rounds through them with no signs of trouble and are about due for spring replacements.
