My apologies!
I could've got us back on track a while back but didn't...attempt number two. (I won't respond to the other subject any more here per Charles' directive, besides, the subject matter kinda got too gritty to fit with the spirit of the ten-year-old-daughter rule):
2,000,000 plus persons are current residents in our jails and prisons. A massive number over that are walking and living among us as ex-convicts. A miniscule percentage of the ex-cons have actually learned their lessons and repented. The majority have not and are simply active criminals just getting away with as many episodes of law-breaking as they can before they get caught again. Stories appear every day about home invasions and the suffering inflicted by these animals on innocent people. Read this story or the story of the murder of Jonas Strunk. Nearly all the offenders are discovered to be career criminals.
I agree with a previous author in this thread: The best way to protect your family from an intruder is:
a good dog and a gun
...but you may not want a wimpy pit bull who lays on the arm of the couch all day because he was raised by a cat.

At Gunpoint?
Who said anything about imposing it at gunpoint? I was assuming I would be such a wonderful and charismatic leader that everyone would do what I say out of love and devotion.
I hope you realize a lot of what I said was toungue-in-cheek, including the above. If someone wants to go to strip clubs and adult bookstores (until I am crowned and can outlaw them) that's their personal business and well within their rights.
Meanwhile, I get to exercise my right to express my opinion about how those establishments are harmful to society and contribute to moral decay, along with my wish that they didn't exist.
But never fear! I'm not running for office, and even if I was, no one would vote for me except my Mom.

Me Too!
Well, of course I should be the one who gets to decide...barring that, it should be someone who thinks just like me! And I think everything in your list should be illegal. Except TVs should be allowed as long as the only station allowed to broadcast is permitted to send out nothing other than old Dr. Who re-runs.seamusTX wrote:I should know better, but ...
Who gets to decide what has no moral or socially redeeming value and should be illegal?
Everyone has a different opinion on what is right/wrong/worthwhile/etc. That's why it's a good thing we live in a democratic republic, and aren't ruled by a king or a theocracy.
BUT, what I really want to point out in this thread is that there are scumbag criminals all around us and we should all be making others aware that they need to preserve and protect their second amendment rights for the sake of themselves and their loved ones, and their freedom to disagree and debate philosophy on web forums.

Re: Good for Vice!
Yep, I do! And then we go off into the definitions of "moral" and "socially redeeming" and it gets all fuzzy...and way off topic. But I tend to view the world in absolutes of right and wrong, not shades of gray. Look up "Calvinism" and you'll see where I'm coming from.KBCraig wrote:Do you believe everything should be illegal that doesn't have moral or socially redeeming value?
Remember, it's my opinion of how "I" believe the world should be. I know lots of folks disagree, and I don't mind that a bit. If the world was the way "I" believe it should be, we wouldn't need guns for self defense, either. (But I'd still have one just because target practice is sooo much fun!)

Good for Vice!
I say more power to 'em! Strip clubs ought to be shut down and made illegal in the entire country. Same goes for the adult bookstores. Nothing good comes from any of them...no moral or social redeeming value whatsoever.govnor wrote:The vice also goes into strip clubs around here and if the girl touches them in any way, I mean even on the shoulder or something, while she's dancing...they put a warrant out for her arrest and she doesn't know it until she gets pulled over the next time.

72 Reasons I Carry a Gun
Have you ever been to Family WatchDog?
I went to their site and plugged in my address. Guess what I found? 72 registered sex offenders living within 7 miles of my home. The closest, living 0.28 miles from my house, has a conviction for aggravated sexual assault. 1,478 feet from my front door.
72 is a lot of scumbags. And those are just the sex offenders. I wonder how many robbers, gang members, and convicts of other violent crimes there are? Another 72? Maybe a hundred or more? How many are out there that just haven't been caught and convicted yet?
And my neighborhood is somewhere just above middle class, with the average house listed around 200k.
It astonishes me when people can't comprehend why I keep firearms handy and ready for action, but I guess most people haven't checked to see what kind of individuals live down the street or next door. The number didn't surprise me. I know, having worked as a police officer in my prior career, that our society is full of bad guys.
A fellow told me during an argument over gun control the other day that I must be miserable, because I obviously lived in fear since my property is patrolled by a pit bull and I have a CHL. My response? The CHL and the pit bull are precisely the reasons I don't live in fear. He lives in denial and stupidity...and he should be living in fear if he knows how many perverts and killers are living near him as he goes about his daily routine with virtually no defense, depending on the judicial system to protect him as it turns parolees lose on our streets by the thousands.
The next time someone starts preaching gun control to you, send them over to Family WatchDog or one of the other sex offender registries and have them look up their neighborhood. Then point out a reputable gun dealer and CHL instructor for them, because they'll probably have a quick change of heart.
