They're talking about hb300 right now, haven't got to it yet unless I missed it while I was away from the desk.

Re: Campus-Carry Bills are dying!!!
It certainly appears that way to me...but it says "should", not "shall", therefore it has no ruling compulsion for the chair to heed it. (IMO)

Re: Campus-Carry Bills are dying!!!
I know you were asking Charles, but as I was wanting the definition myself and being the impatient person I am, I found a description as follows:Douva wrote:Charles, can you explain the process of "tagging" a bill. The only reference I found to tagging in the "Rules and Precedents of the Texas House" is on page 49, where it says, "motions to tag a bill, table a bill, postpone consideration of it indefinitely, and to postpone consideration of it beyond the time allowed are all out of order and should be ruled out by the chairman."
The Pigeonhole
Another important function of committees is to bury some bills. The term pigeonhole refers to the practice of a bill not being considered by a committee. A related procedure in the Texas Senate is “tagging,” which allows any senator to require a forty-eight-hour advance notice before a committee holds hearings on a bill.[/b] With a short legislative session, this allows a single senator to kill a bill late in the session. - found at http://www.accd.edu/sac/gov/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; emphasis added by tfrazier

Re: Campus-Carry Bills are dying!!!
If that bill doesn't make it out of committee I plan to write a nice little editorial for AC after this cycle about Garnet Coleman's use of this little starvation tactic...along with a few others' shenanigans I'm hearing about and checking for veracity.
Republicans have used this sort of dirty trick a little at times, too (considerably less than the democrats), but it's exactly the sort of thing that needs to come to a screeching halt in our political system.
It's no different that the dirty tactics they used at the federal level to prevent most of Bush's Supreme Court nominees from ever getting voted on.

Re: Campus-Carry Bills are dying!!!
He said call Duncan (bolding of Senator Duncan added by me)..Pay attention!!!Charles L. Cotton wrote:...It's also time to start calling Senator Duncan and tell him that Garnet Coleman has "tagged" the House campus-carry bill, so we need him to allow a vote on the Senate version (SB1164) or this very important issue will not even be heard. Remind him that the Texas Republican Platform contains a plank to support campus-carry!
Chas.
Rep. Garnet Coleman (512) 463-0524
Senator/Chairman Duncan (512) 463-0128
...and the smart-alek "Pay attention!!!" comes from my Linux experience. I can see how you could have mis-read it.

Only if you haven't publicly posted a message stating you were going to employ such nefarious ACORN type tactics!TexasComputerDude wrote:should we call more than once? I can use different phone numbers
EDIT: I'm just poking fun at you, man. It just struck me funny and made me think about those 17,000 duplicate voter registrations out in New Mexico or wherever.

Re: Campus-Carry Bills are dying!!!
I think we confused the system because both of us were in there editing it at the same time. I assumed you were just "abusing your power"!
You got it close enough...and you're very welcome!

Re: Campus-Carry Bills are dying!!!
Please don't disregard this call to action because you aren't in school; remember that many have perished to fight for rights they would never use or need, simply for the sake that others would use and need them.
A phone call or fax isn't much to ask, is it?
Please get on the horn now for our brothers and sisters who attend classes in our colleges and universities.
I made myself a phone script to use so I wouldn't have to worry about what I was going to say when I actually got someone on the other end:

If someone has better wording please feel free to post edited versions.Hello, my name is _______.
I'm calling about House Bill 1893 and Senate Bill 1164 regarding campus carry. It is my understanding that these bills are currently held up in committees. I would like all the committee members to know that it is my desire that the bills be moved forward for a fair vote, not left to die in committee.
