I was watching a game show on TV recently where the contestant (1st place) could win a week long trip to NJ....all expenses paid.
Second place was two weeks!

Yeah, but there are some places that are VERY difficult to get a gun, like NYC. I don't think you can legally own pepper spray there. Your only option might be a security system. I agree with you though...relying on that to save your life is just scary. I put mine on at night when I'm sleeping. If anyone walked through the house it would sound immediately and wake me up so I could get one of my guns.Lodge2004 wrote:Anyone who uses a security system to protect their life is confused as to their purpose. Security systems, like other non-lethal force options, at best can deter an attacker but most likely will only buy you a few seconds of time.MBGuy wrote:Joe Mitchell of Associated Security Corp. said his company's phones have been ringing off the hook.
"I had 15 phone calls on my phone by 9:30 in the morning," he said.
He said that security systems aren't meant to protect valuables anymore, that many people use them to protect their lives.
Although I believe an alarm system, pepper spray, a powerful flashlight, etc... are great tools, you must also consider what to do when they don't have the intended effect. Unfortunately, many law enforcement agencies, local governments and the media make them seem to be "the solution". Not only is it bad advice but it is also dangerous.
One of my friends recently moved to NJ and is now a felon for pulling out his gun on a would be attacker the day after they moved there. He has a CHL, but forgot he wasn't in Texas anymore. At least he's alive, but I don't know what's worse...dying... or living in New Jersey.

This is really an unbelievable stance to take. Calling the police in Dallas might get them there in 30 minutes if it was a life and death situation (given that you even have that option). There's no way that the police can be there if you need them. At least not right WHEN you need them. That's a big city. In my suburb it doesn't take five minutes for them to get here on a Saturday night. So I don't understand how the big city mentality is this way. Even going so far as not allowing people to own guns, a useful sized defense knife or even pepper spray in some places like NYC or Chicago.yep, the "call your local law enforcement to get proper training" advice is what seems to counter the advice that owning a gun is appropriate. It's the big city police chief opinion that homeowners should NOT have guns that seems to pervade. That is possibly a perception created by an oversealous anti gun media though. I just think the "run and hide crowd" has a much more willing accomplice in the media than the "defend yourself crowd". Most of these people really believe that it is the duty of their local police department to "protect" them from these type occurances.
There's no way I could ever live in a place like that. I'm going to at least defend my home or try to if someone breaks in. I mean, look at the alternative...raped and burned alive. The way I see it, there is no choice. Anyone with a little bit of training can effectively wield a shotgun. I can't believe you have to wait two weeks to buy one up there. Handgun...three months??? I wonder how long it takes a criminal to purchase a gun on the street in Connecticut?

I hear stuff like this and it's hard to believe that someone can do something like that. I don't care what anyone says, I think things are getting worse in the world and have been for years. That's just inhuman behavior. That's also why we have to be vigilant all the time.Charles L. EDIT: The perps are pictured on the side. I thought it was something different since it was video...
