Re: May 2014

The Wally Walk was interesting -- no one even looked at me. Surprising since I wore a very loud Hawaiian shirt! So I looked around and saw a lot of guys who were carrying, since most of them printed quite a bit with their tee shirts. I finally stopped looking around -- didn't want people to think I was checking out guy's butts!

Re: May 2014

Nothing here yet -- trying not to scare the mail delivery lady by rushing up to the mailbox. 121 days and counting. Of course, we are coming off a three day holiday weekend.

Once you see the changes on the website you should have the plastic in a week or less and I'm guessing you'll see the change on the website by Monday.....keep your chin up, you're almost there!!
I checked the website this morning (Saturday) and was surprised to see that change of address links, etc. were there! Looks like plastic will arrive soon and the last man standing from May will be leaving the Waiting Room! :thumbs2: :woohoo

Re: May 2014

I received a phone call yesterday from the person processing my application. She said the final documents I faxed reached her and my application is cleared and they should issue plastic in about two weeks. Good news, but I am wondering why two more weeks? :confused5 Nothing has changed on the website, no new change your address links as others have experienced. Hopefully soon as I am well over 100 days at this point.

Re: May 2014

Friday I received a call from the person handling my application process. She wanted a copy of the letter with the Court Clerk's certification of search. No problem, it was already ordered and came in the mail on Saturday. I faxed it on Sunday and called in today to see if it was received and if they are ready to issue my license. CHL took a message and I am waiting for the return call. Hopefully this will mark the end of the wait.

Re: May 2014

I miscounted. It is now 104 days since I first submitted the materials. Less workdays than that number -- but far too long. :nono:

Have you contacted your state rep? Many Aug applicants are reporting turn arounds of less than 2 weeks. They can't be that far behind.
Not yet. I ordered a certified letter from the Superior Court stating I have no criminal record, since I have not received the requested feedback on whether or not the email response from the Court is sufficient. That is what they asked for in the additional information letter. I faxed the initial email reply from the Court, but decided to provide literally what they requested. Certified letter on letterhead with a court seal hould be here any day, but in the meantime all I hear from DPS CHL is the sound of crickets. Still waiting. After I fax the certified letter from the Court I will definitely contact my State Rep. It is now over 90 days and no final action.

Re: May 2014

I called to make sure the fax arrived since paperwork seems to disappear into a void. It was received by the person who is processing my file. I asked how long it might be before my application is finished. I was told that the agent is now working on other files and it would be more time. It sounds like my file was moved to the bottom of the pile again. The person did say that they are inundated with applications and the State has not hired any additional help. I'll give it another week or two. If no movement I will contact my State rep.

Actually, you are not the last one from May -- but I may be. The last time I phoned DPS I was in background check status. I received a letter wanting more documentation -- FBI found an arrest from when I was a kid, 46 years ago. Strange that they did not also note that I do not have a criminal record associated with that arrest. Also weird because I have passed the FBI NICS background check when purchasing firearms. I am always delayed with NICS and now I know why. I had to contact the county Superior Court and get a criminal background check showing that I do not have a criminal record. That info arrived a few days ago and was faxed yesterday to DPS. I had contacted the DOJ in California prior to applying for the CHL, and obtained a fingerprint based background check. Their letter in response also said no criminal history -- I also forwarded that letter to DPS yesterday. After receiving that letter from DOJ and before I had applied for the CHL I called the California DOJ to tell them I needed documentation that I had no criminal history I was told, "No arrest record and no criminal history. As far as we are concerned it never happened. Answer "no" on any application regarding arrests." That particular advice from the DOJ was not good advice, but DPS now has proof that no criminal record associated with that arrest exists. It was so long ago I did not even remember the year in which it occurred.

83 days and counting. :banghead:

Welcome to the club I've been in background check for 2 weeks and am told it can take up to 6 weeks...my girlfriend already got hers and it makes the wait so much worse
I just learned of another reason the background check can take so long. The FBI not only checks with every State Department of Justice, it also checks with every county in the United States -- about 3,200 counties.

llucas wrote:I called today as 30 days have passed since final documents submitted. After a 30 minute hold on the phone I reached someone. Took my name and drivers license number to look up my application. I was told he could not find confirmation that my application process has started or documents received. I was told to check back in two to three weeks. At this point I am not even in the queue which means they probably haven't even started the background check which in and of itself takes a minimum of three weeks these days. I looked at the last annual CHL stats posted on the website: if applications have increased any over the last annual report, they would need to process between 800 to 900 applicants per working day (based on five day work week) just to keep up. FYI.
llucas, have you checked the website to see if there is a status change/documents received? My status updated after 1 week, it showed documents received and what is in 'review'. I had a hard time when I first went to the website to check the status .... I couldn't find exactly where I was supposed to look. Here's the address to the website to check the status, https://txapps.texas.gov/txapp/txdps/chl/login.do" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; its the same place we all go to do our online application, but this time we are considered a "returning user" and access our info from the "login" button on the bottom right of the screen. First you have to hit the login button then type in your DL # and DOB, then "continue". It will bring you to your status page that shows this info; (or something like this!)
Application : Received
Fingerprints : Complete
Affidavits : Received
DL or ID : Valid
Citizenship : No documentation required
Passport photo holder : Received
Photo : Received
Proof of Classroom training : Received
Proof of Proficiency training : Received
Fee : Received
Background Check : Under review
Concealed Handgun License : Print pending completion of application review

Each line is colored either yellow or green and has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it or a green circle with a checkmark in it. If it were me, and 30 days had passed and I didn't see any updates, I would seriously consider submitting all my documentation again through the website, http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/contact/default.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; select the program (concealed handgun) from the drop down menu, choose "submit CHL supporting documents" from the drop down menu, fill in all the info, click "choose file" to browse your computer for the correct documents/file (hint, I scanned all of my documents into one file so all i had to do was attach only one file), and then at the bottom of the tabs for "choose file" you'll see an "ATTACH" tab/button, be sure to click ATTACH once you have attached all of your documents BEFORE you hit "submit form"
I hope this helped, I am, by no means, an expert at this ..... I must have just stumbled across the correct place to submit my documents as I received a status update 7 days after submission. I'm sure I still have a long wait ahead of me for the license but at least I know they have my stuff .... Good luck to you, I hope you hear soon that all documents have been received and are in review!
PS .... within a day of my online submission of documents, I had an email confirmation that documents were received......because you never received that email conf I would DEF upload them again. As an FYI ....the first time I attached them (and thought I did it right) I realized that I hadn't done it right because I didn't see that ** ATTACH ** button at the bottom of the 'attach file' column .... I had to go back and do it again, once I clicked the ATTACH button then submit form I got a confirmation page, "thank you for contacting TXDPS, your inquiry has been successfully been submitted for a response"
That is the process I used. No, no updates. I finally received an email reply to my inquiry saying there were no attachments to my email. When I submitted on 5/7 there was no option on the pull-down menu for chl documents -- that is new. Although I noted in my inquiry that I had also mailed my documents there was no info offered about that. I then resubmitted my documents and received an email the next day indicating they had received them and to give them six weeks to, I assume, begin processing. By that point I will be nine weeks into the process. The weblink still says they are awaiting receipt of documents. It does not appear I am even in the queue yet.
