What happens if you've lived out of state in the past 5 years? I've lived in 2 other states. DPS sends an employee into each county where you have lived for the last 5 years (5 I believe) to conduct an in person background. They check the county and district criminal clerk and District civil clerk. The tax assessor is also queried.
