I wonder if there's a way to put teeth into the AG next session on lack of activity enforcing the law.Scott in Houston wrote:Well, it is supposed to be our Attorney General, but he's apparently worthless at enforcing the teeth that were put into law this year. I'm so frustrated with him…TreyHouston wrote:who fights these unfair and flat our wrong actions. Do the NRA lawyers get involved with this stuff or is it mainly simple people like us?

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
Some people don't realize that not everyone at a place that serves alcohol will partake in drinking the nectar of the gods.Iunnrais wrote:I'm not sure about a formal complaint but when I spoke with a committeeman Saturday, his opinion was that the rodeo could enforce whatever they wanted and if the state felt like fining the city $10k a day then it would be money well spent. This was based on the fact that alcohol was being served on-site and they had no intention of allowing guns and alcohol to mix.
If they won't budge, neither should we. Keep those complaints going to the AG, let him fine the county $10k/day.
The signs are not enforceable either way.

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
I don't there there are any county residency requirements. Go for it.canvasbck wrote:Does it have to be a Harris County resident? I would be happy to file this complaint. As a lifetime HLSR member and a committee captain, I am appalled at their new stance on concealed carry.Charles L. Cotton wrote:Someone needs to file a complaint with Harris County now. The Rodeo has already made a public statement banning open and concealed carry and that triggers SB273's provisions. The County will have three days to "cure" this notice. Since the notice was oral rather than a sign, the retraction must also be oral. Three days after filing the notice with Harris County, file a complaint with the AG. The AG must give fifteen days to cure and, again, the only cure will be oral retraction. Since the rodeo is more than 15 days away, and lasts more than 15 days to boot, the $1,500 per day per sign fine will attach.

But also let's let the AG sue the snot out of the city/county/whoever lets these signs remain in violation of state law.

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
Education of the law is built-in. Citizens educate the municipality and they have 3 days to look it up and take down the sign and/or change their policy.Pariah3j wrote:I don't think that's fair to Paxton - he is busy and has done some great things. But he does seem to be holding back on going after municipalities. Maybe he's giving them a chance to get familiar with the law. I don't know - it is frustrating but at the same time but I won't accuse the man of not doing is job.RossA wrote:You mean to force the AG to do his job?

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
I think the best course of action would be to go through the red tape as soon as possible for the show (take pictures, giving notice to the organizers & county officials) and alert the AG on the 3rd day, documenting the signs every day thereafter. Then, doing the same thing next year if they still post.Pariah3j wrote:Well the speed in which the AG's office seems to be processing the claims, the Houston Rodeo will be long gone before they around to it - and maybe that's what they are hoping for/counting on. Not sure if the new law would or should allow them to fine them(post event) for erroneously having the signs up and carry not being allowed.
But, I think the AG will let the county know that the grounds cannot be posted next time, and if they do, they get fined.
In the mean time, 30.06 and 30.07 don't apply on the grounds (outside of the professional sporting event), so carry on.
