Re: H&K - looking for feedback

Hopefully all the positive comments I've heard about H&K in general, and about this new gun in particular are well warranted. It's hopefully on its way to me and if all goes to plan should have it in hand shortly! :anamatedbanana

Re: H&K - looking for feedback

I did go ahead with the VP40 LE that I'd found on gunbroker.com -- at $579 that seemed like a heck of a deal. Thanks to all for your input and suggestions!

Re: H&K - looking for feedback

Still torn between the HK45 Tactical and the VP40 LE....I just found a NIB VP40 LE w/night sites and 3 mags for $579...that seems like a really great price?

Re: H&K - looking for feedback

Getting somewhat closer to knowing what I want or don't want....yesterday I had a chance to hold both a P30 and a USP Tactical .45. I loved the way that the P30 felt and did not like the way that the USP felt. The P30 felt familiar, similar to the feel of my Glocks but the grip panels made it feel very comfortable and it fit my hand. The USP reminded me of a basic 1911 and more like holding a block of wood with some texture, and having to fit my hand to it.

If I go by that alone then I'm down to either the VP 40 or P30 if I want another .40SW, or with the HK45 Tactical if I want another .45 and the ability to easily add a suppressor.

one thing you need to realize is the usp45 tactical (or hk45 tactical not sure which you mean) is a higher end handgun model from the USP line and they are very popular. it has a better trigger and a threaded barrel, the extras are the reason why it costs twice as much as the VP line.
That and all the hammer fired models will cost more due to the higher cost to manufacture, it's very difficult to try and compare the VP cost to the cost of the 45 tactical line it's apples and oranges. another thing to consider is the USP series is a bit thicker than the P series, the P series is more ergonomic (as is the HK45 series)

IMO go try them out before dropping the cash on the tactical, or if you just want to wade into the HK waters the VP9 is hard to go wrong with...i'm far from a marksman and the second i picked up the vp9 i was greatly more accurate with it just through the first magazine alone.

From what the H&K sites say there is a USP Tactical .45 (http://hk-usa.com/hk-models/usp-tactical/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; & http://www.heckler-koch.com/en/products ... rview.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
and
HK45 Tactical (http://hk-usa.com/hk-models/hk45-tactical/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; & http://www.heckler-koch.com/en/products ... rview.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

Is the USP Tactical .45 higher end than the HK45 Tactical?

The .45 Tactical? If so, that was one of the draws in hoping for that with the longer frame - funny that the H&K site doesn't list the site radius.

It appears HK wants to go head to head with Glock (similar gun at a slightly higher price point). There is also the P30SK, which is a lower capacity, hammer fired gun. Easier to conceal and at the same price point as the VP9.

I have a SA/DA trigger. I don't find the heaviness of the DA a big problem. In terms of accuracy, I think the person pulling the trigger (me) has far more to do with the accuracy (or inaccuracy) of the shot than the double acting trigger pull. :???:

I've held other HK's (and other brands). None of them compare to how the P30 fits in my hand. The adjustable grips help that as well. I didn't think I had small hands, but other pistols just feel huge in my hand. The P30 fits like a glove.

That's what's leaving me feeling overwhelmed on the choices as I do like striker fired -- but don't see any info on their site as to which models have that. I also loved the grips -- my friend has hands that are same size as mine, so the grips he had in made the gun feel more comfortable than my best Glock. But if I'm understanding correctly I'm not going to get the grips that I'd like unless I get the P30 or HK45 Tactical, and I want to stay in either .40 or .45.
The VP9 and the VP40 have the same feature of interchanging grip elements as the P30 and full size HK45! The only difference is the stippling pattern.
Was just about to ask about the VP40 as I saw it on their site as well. Didn't know for sure on the grips as I hadn't had a chance to read more, but saw the rail (which I'd like), and see that it doesn't have the ability to mount a suppressor which I've been kind of toying with, but then have wondered about the thread interfering with ease of draw from a Fobus paddle.

Fortunately I have held and fired a P30, and absolutely loved it. So I have an idea of what I like as I haven't found too many H&Ks in the stores around me and have been resorting to looking around gunbroker.
Too sad you are in Houston and I'm in Dallas. We could go to the range and you could test the P20, P30L, both in V3.

Hmmm...let's see...wonder how long that is by cycle? :fire

Noticing that from the pricing on gunbroker it seems that the VP40 is priced just slight higher than a Glock. Entry level gun then?
i wouldnt say entry level, but they priced the VP line similarly to the currently polymer striker fired options.
i love my vp9 and if you get one or the vp40 i HIGHLY suggest getting an LE one if you can, which comes with an extra magazine and night sights.

What kind of differences are there between that and a P30 or 45 Tactical? I mean, what makes those that much more expensive? On gunbroker the VP40 is going for $600 and slightly up, while for example, the 45 Tactical is about twice that.

Glad you mentioned that! I hadn't checked yet and as my preference is for Fobus paddle holsters went and checked. Looks like they have models to cover nearly all H&K, but they are currently out of stock. So if I move forward going to have to keep an eye on availability for sure.
It's funny that you should mention that.

I recently purchased a Fobus paddle holster for my Beretta.

I wore it yesterday for the first time. It is very comfortable and conceals well under a loose T-shirt.

I was practicing drawing the gun and found that you have to tilt the gun towards the body for it to slip out of the holster, otherwise it is "locked" in the holster.
Yupper. I know that some folks don't like paddle holsters in general but I personally haven't run into someone who'd tried the Fobus and didn't like it. I've had probably 8-9 of them because of the various Glocks that I had and two Kimbers and they all worked very weel. And you're right about the retention ability -- the clip bend keeps it from being brute force removed from the belt unless someone is standing in the exactly right position, and the gun retention in the holder is great. When I first tried one it was to try a friends as he swore by them and when I looked at it and how easily the gun slipped in I thought, yeah right....but it works very well. I know that there are other holsters that may provide better retention, but at additional weights and such.

yeah and the variant numbers aren't always the same across all models either.
the light lem variant comes highly touted as it gives you the single action pull all the time and IMO would be best for carry as you avoid that super heavy first pull or using a safety.
I hate that I'm having to use Wikipedia for checking some of this, but read that the LEM was for DO only? But they say that you can add the trigger used on any model?
