Better at what? Both are expensive, loud, heavy, and painful with virtually no usefulness which cannot be better fulfilled by better and less expensive alternatives. None of which should mean anything if you just want one. Go for it.

It depends on what you need. There isn't much that lives in North America that needs anything near the power of the 500 S&W. And at $2 a round, very few things cost as much to feed or kick quite so hard.

I have little use for anything more than a 44 S&W Magnum. Any more and a rifle is far more: more power, more accurate, more economical, more preserving of my precious body. I would just buy a 300 Win Mag and call it a day. YMMV
