I also had to draw my weapon due to someone trying to get in my truck with me. The first thing I did when I got away was call 911 and gave a brief description of the altercation and offered any info they needed. I did this to cover my tail and show that I was not trying to hide anything in the event that the BG called them too....he did...his responding LEO called me for my side of the story and told me to have a good day.

So to answer your question....if I were him (your friend) I would have called 911 and explain what happened. If someone else called in with your friends tag number, LEO could be looking for him thinking your friend is the BG.
