Is that legal to walk around a car dealership with a suitcase/briefcase with a firearm in it..without a CHL? It's not being carried on your person.jmra wrote:So when he goes to the dealership he needs to take a suitcase with a lockbox in it.Jumping Frog wrote:A non-licensee declaring a handgun that is in a locked case in their luggage is legal because the handgun is not being carried on or about his/her person.jmra wrote:Good point.
How does someone without a CHL declare a handgun in their checked baggage at an airport without violating the law? I don't recall a CHL being a requirement to transport a handgun in such a manner.
PC §46.02. UNLAWFUL CARRYING WEAPONS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun, illegal knife, or club . . .
something like that, I only let the dealership touch the car when I take it in for service, so that's why I go to the dealership for oil changes and other maintenancenyj wrote:you got a ferrari or something?
The oil change on my specific vehicle is not an average vehicle, it takes a few hours... a little bit more of a high end vehicle.. . I took about 6 hours to get it changed, and I did not want to wait at the dealership. And to anser the last question, I do not know, that is the dealerships policy that is stated on the service advisors desk. "Items to not be left in the car during service"nyj wrote:I'm a little confused...why did you get a rental car when you were just getting an oil change? The gun should have just stayed in the glove box. There's no reason for a technician to go through your things for an oil change.
This is what I was thinking, but I had no other option or at least I thought so at the moment when he said it needs to be removed and was OK to bring inside while I wait for my loaner.powerboatr wrote:yep and when you put it in your pocket without a chl...you were guilty as sin and that would have prevented you from getting one in the future if the law enforcer showed up.The Annoyed Man wrote:This is not a poke at you, but I'll state the obvious solution........get your CHL, and the problem goes away. Welcome to the forum.
the service guy could have been a gun hating peeeebody and called johny law right after you put it in your pocket...."o h my we area at xyz dealership and a customer is hiding a gun........
i have a small safe to for those times when it has to stay locked up....
Sadly the car I drive does not have a glove box that locks...jmra wrote:Welcome to the forum. A couple of things you could do. You could get one of the small safes that you put under the seat and secure with a cable or you could lock it in the glove box and give them the valet key.
In a case where you are getting a rental car I would just tell them there are some things you will need to move from your car to the rental car and have them leave your car out until the rental gets there.
