Actually, the 1st Amendment is specifically for the federal government. At the time of the founding of our country there were multiple states that had state sanctioned religions, and certain religions were prohibited. At the time of the revolution Catholicism was forbidden in Maryland and it was legal to kill Caatholic priests.NavyVet1959 wrote:
