To tell you the truth, I could probably pick out a vehicle in Eastern KY or Western WV and say "there is a gun in there" and be correct a large portion of the time.

I have witnessed the gun sniffing dogs in action in Kentucky at a refinery.

I do not know what they hit on.

They busted some hunters that brought their rifles in the refinery.
