Rattlesnakes never did always rattle but they do so even less these days as a result of the pig population. Pigs love to eat snakes so they have learned not to rattle.

Really? That's interesting. Are they not affected much by the snake's bite?
I expect that they are affected if bitten.. Pigs are pretty smart and undoubtedly have figured out how to kill rattlers. There are other animals that feed on rattlers. Roadrunners have been known to kill snakes. Don't forget the mongoose and cobras.

Pigs are tough animals and depending on the severity and location of the bite they could survive. I had a female lab that got bit on the neck by a water moccasin. Took her to the vet and she told me that there was not much she could do, just keep her hydrated and give aspirin. Her throat closed off from the swelling so I inserted some surgical tubing in her throat and gave her water. After two days she was playing as usual.

The vet told me that some animals will have immunity to venom depending on how much the snake injects.

Re: Have you ever actually drawn your CHL Weopon in self defense

Some folks just don't want to air it out on the internet.

I have drawn several times, way before I had a CHL. Once with my CHL.

Long stories.

Once at an ATM when approached by two men.

Once with wife and 4 kids in the car stuck in traffic.

Once confronting three men trying to steal half a house of furniture from me.

Never fired.

One of the guys trying to steal the furniture did wet himself when he heard the 1911 safety click off with it stuck in his ear.

Re: Have you ever actually drawn your CHL Weopon in self defense

Three times pre-CHL. Once at an ATM, once protecting my wife and sons stuck in traffic, once at home in California preventing a robbery at my home.

Once Post CHL - very agressive Katrina/Rita evacuee in Beaumont.
