I have a 642 in .38 special and could carry that. I just wish it had boot grips. The grips it came with are the three fingered wood ones. It pokes out of my jeans pockets. If I cannot find a suitable pocket 9mm, I may just see about getting boot grips for the 642. I have never tried, but I assume I can order a set?

For the situations that I carry the LCP .22 LR (gym or BUG), it's perfect. It's small, lightweight, but still easy to shoot (because of the smaller cartridge). I can easily hit what I'm aiming for within bad breath distance repeatedly and quickly. Think 5-10 rounds grouped into something the size of a grapefruit. One thing about the LCP is that it's finicky with ammo. But Federal Punch is purportedly a good round in .22, it's fairly cheap, and it has been reliable.

For something in a larger cartridge I like my LCR in .38/.357 or my Glock 43 in 9mm. But but they are heavier and recoil can be an issue.

Re: pocket pistol ideas?

I have a Ruger LCP II in .22 LR and an LCR in .38/.357 for pocket pistols. I use them mostly in a belly band when I go to the gym and can't carry my normal EDC, a full size Glock. In other situations, in my pocket as either a backup or when I may not need a full size gun. Great BUG's. The LCP II in .22 can be finicky with ammo. But it wasn't hard to find something that was reliable.
