While a decent bill, a better bill would have been to completely deregulate suppressors under state law like they just did in Tennessee. Or if that's a bridge too far for Texas Republicans, simply prohibit suppressor possession for anyone prohibited from possessing firearms.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 10, 2017) – Yesterday, Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam signed a bill into law decriminalizing the manufacture and possession of firearm suppressors in the state. The new law not only removes a layer of state regulation, it will help foster an environment hostile to federal gun control in Tennessee.

They aren't regulated in Texas. The law in Texas before this passage basically reinforced federal law stating that it had to be registered under the NFA. After this bill becomes law, the requirement will be to follow federal law. No registration, nothing past the normal FFL stuff unless I'm just missing something.

Besides, any hope I had for the HPA or Nat'l Reciprocity to pass at the federal level has pretty much evaporated.

Texas Penal Code 46.05(a)(1)(D) lists silencers as prohibited weapons unless you have registered it properly under the NFA.

I apologize for any confusion. I only quoted you so that I could expand upon your comment to others that are participating in this thread and others.

Lowering the fee was neither important or necessary. There were much more important and necessary things than giving everyone a discount. If someone wants a discount maybe the state should put something on Groupon.com.

If you're happy with the results this year, vote for them. If you're not happy, why do you want more of the same?

Keep in mind the session is not over and staff for many people read this forum so please do not make it more difficult and costly to get what little we have a chance to see passed over the finish line. If your elected official didn't vote your way on your bill then don't vote for them. I do ask that you choose carefully about voting against them because they are an incumbent.

Many of our elected officials never got a chance to vote one way or another on a bill but if your official is on the calendars committee or a committee that killed your bill then I suggest having a heart to heart talk with them after the session is over so they understand why you are so unhappy. Once the session is over you will find them much easier to catch in person.

I think the sentiments against many officials is well deserved but it's not yet time to voice them. As a rule I recommend not shooting one's self in the foot by hurting the chances of pro-gun bills that still have a chance because more important bills were taken out behind the barn and executed with one in the back of the head. Am I unhappy, yes. Do I plan to do something about it? Yes. Am I going to go on a tear and hurt the chances of pro gun bills that are still in play? No.

Anger is understandable but don't loose your cool and go make things easier for our opponents. HB375 not getting out of committee is an example of people getting angry hurting hurting their bill. Watkin's foot in the door stunt is still eating political capital and he knows it. I understand that he even apologized to Pancho Nevarez during committee testimony this session.
