Carrying with confidence would mean knowing that a Quakecon is not a sporting event, and since it's a private venue, you're legal to carry there in the absence of a 30.06 notice.

Unfortunately, you received verbal notice because you asked.
THANK you very much for telling me this.

Well I carried, but my spider sense was going nuts, so I went back my car and disarmed then approached one of the Dallas Sheriff officers who are providing security (not DPD this year) and asked if she considered the event a professional sporting event with respect to CHL carry. She then asked me I was trying to bring a weapon in – I said no, and she quickly stated that NO WEAPONS ARE PERMITTED inside the event.

I know I should have stated this, but I am still learning all this and I just have to know.. so I stated that there is no 30.06 posted.. and with very direct look in my eyes “NO WEAPONS PERMITTED. I got the impression that I needed to stop asking questions and nicely go away. So at any rate I believe the gun buster/no weapons/no 30.06 enigma is up to the individual LEO discretion. (duh!)

Lessons learned for this nerd: When there are thousands of people at an event and LEOs are providing security, best not to carry - or ask CHL questions to the same LEOS providing that security.

Hotels off limits :?:  :?:

Respectfully, I think you might be incorrect.. I do not recall hotels being mentioned on my CHL course and I checked the DPS site and there is no mention of concealed carry off limits at hotels.

Not that I want to divert the thread but has anyone else heard about concealed carrry at hotels?

Quakecon in Dallas this week

Quakecon is at the Dallas Hilton Anatole this week, I know the hotel is not posted, but the event does have a computer gaming competition with a $100,000 cash prize hand out.. Is this considered a professional sporting event. Basically my question is: carry ok :?:

Tickets are not sold for the event. So I would think not, Dallas Police provides security so worst case - I'll just go up and ask one of the DPD officers.

Also any CHL’s attending - please post if you would like to meet-up.
