Re: OK, I'm confused (51% signage)
They do sell beer and wine at the front desk, but no alcohol in room fridges. To make things more fun, they have posted (next to the 51% sign) a sign prohibiting alcohol consumption on site. Seems like you can't have both???

I don't think posting the link will work since it's displaying the output of a database search, but here's the info: License #: BQ746034 Trade Name: SPRINGHILL SUITES SEABROOK Owner: OMKAR ENTERPRISES MANAGEMENT LLC Location Address: 2120 NASA PARKWAY SEABROOK , TX 77586 Mailing Address: 2120 NASA P...

OK, I'm confused (51% signage)
Hi gang! I moved out of Texas 3 years ago, but as I'm military I'm still officially a TX resident. I'm back visiting this week and staying in a hotel for my visit. I was very surprised to see a 51% sign at the entrance to the hotel. This hotel doesn't have a restaurant, but in the evenings has a bar...

Re: My Daughter's School Paper
I have to ask, though, this sounds very familiar. Is it something from Ayoob? I hope your daughter cited her references. The assignment did not require citing references. She primarily used guncite.com for her information. I hadn't seen that site before, but it seems to pull a lot of information in...

My Daughter's School Paper
My daughter had to write a persuasive paper for her 10th grade English class (Houston, TX) and was assigned the topic of Automatic Weapons. Here's her essay: Citizens and Guns When you've only got seconds to spare, the cops are minutes away. If you're in a life or death situation, having a concealed...

Re: Wings Over Houston
This is old news by now (I'm way behind in catching up on the Forum), but I don't believe federal property is a prohibition to carry. I'm basing this on the posting outside Lackland AFB in San Antonio. The sign at the gate says firearms prohibited (which the base commander can decree), but it lists ...

Re: Doctor Turned Kids Away Over Gun Question
I'm jumping into this discussion a bit late, but I want to throw something in from the doc's side. I'm a physician, Family Practice, so I've done thousands of 'well child checks'. I have to disagree with those that have vocalized that inquiring about safety issues is outside the bounds of these visi...

Hunter's Extravaganza - San Antonio Alamodome
I'm planning on going to the Hunter's Extravaganza at the Alamodome in San Antonio this weekend. Anyone been to this event before? Is it a 'no-guns' venue? I didn't see anything on the website...

Re: A Win in Chicago vs McDonald
This is very probably true. However the difference is it will now be the bad guys dying rather than defenseless citizens.Violence Policy Center Statement on McDonald v. Chicago Decision
"People will die because of this decision."

Re: Scuba Clubs in Houston
I checked out the JSC scuba club, but it was mainly about arranging dive trips that weren't all that cheap. They do have a tank fill service, but I didn't see much of a club atmosphere. When I checked at a local dive shop, they only seemed interested in travel dive trips. Just not something I can ru...

Re: Crime Statistics: CHL v. General Population
the track record of CHLs' is much better than that of law enforcement. It's interesting this thread re-surfaced as I was recently wondering about this very issue. I don't see LEO data on the attached spreadsheet, so I'm wondering what the numbers are that back this up. I don't say this to disparage...

Re: How to hold a magazine
This advice is what I have seen coming from the majority of training systems I've looked at. However, for whatever reason, it feels extremely awkward to me to store the magazine with the bullet facing forward. I have to twist my wrist around in an uncomfortable position to make the draw. If I store...

Re: Learn to fight like an Israeli Commando
I know we're trashing Paladin's original post with wild topic drift, but to sorta "topicize" this I'd say, with what experience I have and what I know today: for someone who has never had extensive empty-hand training, I'd suggest leaning toward Krav Maga, and it sounds like Haganah, also...

Re: Learn to fight like an Israeli Commando
I'll second the recommendation for John Peek's Houston Haganah. It's a very practical system that doesn't depend on superior strength. It also doesn't pussy-foot around. It teaches very lethal empty-hand techniques. As to John, he's a very patient and kind instructor with the safety of the students ...
