Thanks for the welcome and the suggestion!Jaguar wrote:You could look into a non-resident permit Texas honors that is quick and easy, just to tide you over until you have time get the TX CHL. I don't know which that would be, but I am sure someone could point you that direction.
Welcome to Texas
Look like it still has a ways to go.. You're right, I'm not waiting on that one. Just need to find 10 hours in the middle of a move.....Dave2 wrote:I believe so, yes. Unfortunately it won't speed up the licensing office once you've sent in the paperwork, so I wouldn't wait for it to go through if I were you.s9601694 wrote:I read somewhere that there is a law in the making that reduces the class time from 10 hours to 4, is this true?
BTW, welcome to TX!
Thanks that is a good idea! I'll send the sheriff an email (in CO Sheriff's issue CHL's)mewalke wrote:It sounds like you are pretty spot on for most of your points.
No your gun does not have to be unloaded in the vehicle, however it has to be concealed from plain view.
As far as the residency thing, and I'm not advocating purposefully or knowingly breaking the law, but residency transition is a gray area. I still owned two homes in NM when I moved here and was only leasing short-term, so I don't think it would have been hard to make the case that I hadn't really established residency in TX yet.
I would also consider asking the issuing department in CO, or the Attorney Generals office, if there is an opinion related to validity of an unexpired CO CHL for someone who has moved. Maybe there is a transition period? Maybe CO still recognizes it until it has expired?
edit: Oh, and if you enjoy the weather in Houston, I agree with anygun, that's pretty twisted
Welcome to Texas!
