Absolutely agree!

The CHL holders are law abiding citizens, who have been checked and re-checked. They are not likely to initiate a shoot-out or a hold-up. In fact, statistically, they are less likely to commit crime, period. I'd feel more comfortable surrounded by CHL holders than unarmed unknowns.

And, for the most part, CHL holders are sane.

Actually, that's EXACTLY what it means!

Since unlicensed possession is illegal regardless, why bother putting up the sign?
Actually, it is required by the TABC. And, carrying an unlicesned weapon into a locaiton that sells alcohol is a felony vs.a Class A misdemnor
§ 46.02. UNLAWFUL CARRYING WEAPONS. (a) A person commits
an offense if he intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on
or about his person a handgun, illegal knife, or club.
(b) Except as provided by Subsection (c), an offense under
this section is a Class A misdemeanor.
(c) An offense under this section is a felony of the third
degree if the offense is committed on any premises licensed or
issued a permit by this state for the sale of alcoholic beverages.
Thanks, Keith. I still think it's ridiculous — the way they turned 6 pages of the constitution into hundreds of thousands of pages of unnecessary laws. If people know it's illegal to carry a gun without a license (which is a violation of the constitutional rights, in my opinion, in and of itself), why should they create more laws saying it's illegal that it's illegal that it's illegal? I know that the penalty would be more severe in certain places, but if someone decides to break the law by carrying, they cast the dice.

OP file a complaint with Darden- Olive Garden guest relations Managers are NOT allowed to post any such signage where the law allows concealed carry PERIOD!

Call here and get that sign down

Guest Relations Department at 1-800-562-7837
I will verify all the necessary information and go by the restaurant to take a picture of the sign. If it is indeed for unlicensed gun carriers only, then I will post here indicating a false alarm. If it is a 30.06 or an attempt to post an invalid no guns sign, I will also post here and call the parent company.

Thanks for all the info. All of this is good to know for the future as well.

I seem to remember that Olive Garden and Chili's for a couple chains make their own 'Unlicensed possession (TABC)' signs that they are required by law to post. If the sign was a really nice looking well made sign, then I believe that is what it is. I will try to go by the one near my office tomorrow and take a photo and you can see if it is the dame one. Until then, don't contact the company.
I agree. I will go by the one in Alamo Ranch this week and do the same.

Dear (2ACheck):
If you were to see a “no guns” sign in a Darden restaurant where concealed and/or open-carry weapons are legally allowed, please contact our Guest Relations Department at 1-800-562-7837 and we will follow up with that restaurant management team.
I hope this answers your questions, (2ACheck), and we hope to see you in one of our restaurants soon!
We appreciate the time you took to contact us.
Sincerely,
Shari

So, this number would be a valid number to call regarding the Olive Garden restaurant?

The one I am talking about is in the Alamo Ranch at the 151 & 1604. I live about 15 miles from there in Helotes. There is a whole slew of restaurants there. I've been to all of them many times, but I won't be going back to that Olive Garden, even if their sign is invalid. I want to support only pro-2nd Amendment businesses (or at least, neutral ones — without any type of anti-gun sign, valid or invalid).

Actually, we want any sign that is valid or not that is an attempt at a 30.06. We do NOT want gun buster signs, 'No Guns' signs, etc, only those that are 30.06 'like' signs. Also, 51% locations can be posted there.
Now I think that the sign at the Olive Garden was an attempt at a 30.06. It was a really nice plaque — marble looking with large contrasted letters, but the wording was off. I will verify it this week to be sure.

I am almost positive that it was valid. I am going to do a drive by to take a picture this week to verify. Is there a way to update that website?

Even if it's not valid, I can enter it on the website as an invalid sign.
I just refreshed my memory as to the verbiage of the sign, and come to think of it, I think it was NOT a valid sign at the Olive Garden. I am going to take a picture of it and enter it into the website.

I should have paid closer attention when I went there, and I wouldn't have had to leave my gun in the car.

I don't know, why businesses want to do that. If they don't post the signs, there is a chance they'll improve their bottom line. If they do post them, it's a sure thing that they will lose business. I know quite a few CHL holders, who are well to do and can make an impact for any business, who would avoid places even with invalid signs...

I have no idea why a business would bother posting a sign that isn't enforceable. We make it a point around here to encourage not rocking the boat where this is concerned. The state of Texas had laid out very specific rules for posting enforceable signs. It's not our job to point out their errors. Plus, if we clue them, these businesses may eventually post the correct signage.
I agree. I don't know, why anyone pro-2nd Amendment would go around trying to correct the improper signage. Let them stay ignorant.

Thanks for the link.

So, the businesses with a sign, designated as NOT VALID (like some movie theaters), just don't know the law?

Why bother posting a sign, if it's unenforceable?

Olive Garden and CHL / 30.06

A few weeks ago I wanted to take my wife out to an Olive Garden Restaurant for our anniversary. I had not been to Olive Garden since getting my CHL, but I have always heard that they were gun friendly. However, when we got to that particular restaurant, I saw a very visible and correctly set up 30.06 sign.

Needless to say, I was disappointed. I don't know about y'all, but I absolutely loathe leaving my gun in the car and go out of my way to avoid situations, in which I am forced to do so.

My wife knew that these things affect me in such a way, so she even offered to cancel our reservations and go somewhere else, but I knew that it was her second favorite restaurant (Ruth Chris was full on the day) and just decided to bite the bullet.

Regardless, based on my online research, Olive Garden seems to be gun friendly.

Is that restaurant an exception?

Is there an online database of 30.06 restaurants and other businesses, so I could just avoid them?

Would it do any good, if I write a polite email to them, requesting a revision of their policy to gain business of numerous CHL holders, or is it a waste of my time?

What do y'all think is the best way for individual citizens to help make restaurants and businesses CHL friendly?

I would never write a demanding letter to a place like this. I would write a reasonable and polite explanation of how it would benefit them to remove their 30.06.

Am I being to naïve?
