Re: CHL eligibility question

Did my finger prints on 30th Dec. Got form 85 and 86 signed at the nearest bank on 4th Jan, no hassle at all. Application fee and forms put in the mail on the same day.

They were supposed to arrive tomorrow. But, surprise!!!!! Got an email today, from dps stating that "We have received the necessary information for your CHL application." :woohoo

*edit*
Just saw that the email was a reply to an inquiry email sent in November :grumble

Did you submit your original paperwork without the application fee? Or is this some kind of surcharge? :headscratch
:banghead:
"rlol" I think you nailed it. I was wondering how the payment was suppose to be done, especially when it's not through their webpage.

*edit*
Checked the mail and :woohoo another letter.
This one is notifying me that i did not submit electronic fingerprints, and I need to get em done. I am hopeful.

Re: CHL eligibility question

Just a little update, got 2 packets/letters in the mail today. One asking for "a non-refundable fee" and the other asking for more paperwork.

The paperwork packet came with a copy of CHL85 and CHL86, I suppose I'm to head down to the county court to get this filled. In my case Harris county?
The other packet was asking for the non-refundable fees, however it not include the amount I need to pay.

I guess at the very least, It is being processed.

Re: CHL eligibility question

This is probably the only other thread I have found that's related. It does not offer much help though.

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=62004" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Should I bother calling or emailing in? Any advice?

Re: CHL eligibility question

Attended the class and got my CHL-100.

Now the application process begins. It seems that because I do have an SSN, I can not do the online application. Thus, mailing would be my only option.
The packet would be sent to the following address with tracking.

Texas Department of Public Safety
P O Box 4087
Austin, Texas 78773-0001

with the following:
CHL-100
CHL-78A
CHL-78B
Copy of foreign passport
Copy of I-94
Copy of Visa ( the one pasted into passport)
Copy of Texas Hunting license and education card
Copy of Texas driving license front and back

I guess my ducks are finally in a roll?

CHL eligibility question

Hi yall, please excuse this being the first post and having multiple questions. Currently located near Spring/ Houston.

1. I'm currently on a F1 student visa, am I right to say that Chl-40 section 4 applies to me? Source: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/InternetFo ... CHL-40.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
2. Regarding a Hunting license, I purchased one online. Would I need to get a hunter's education to qualify for Chl-40 section 4?
3. I do not have a SSN, would this be an issue? The only information i have on this is the quotes below. Based on them, I believe the F1 visa + Passport + Hunting license will suffice?

You are not required to have a SSN but when an application is submitted
without a SSN an affidavit will be sent and will need to be completed
and returned for verification of this.
For legal residents born outside of the United States, you are required
to submit a copy of your permanent resident card that has an Alien
registration number; or a US Visa with an I-94 number along with a
current copy of a hunting license.
You must contact the Immigration and Customs Department to see if you
are eligible to possess a firearm.

so going back to the earlier link (http://www.atf.treas.gov/firearms/faq/faq2.htm#r1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
and reading thru section R, i am not allowed to posses a firearm,

i'm more than happy to abide by all your laws and rules but it seems heavily one sided against us, and we are here legally,
it took over 2 years (luckily my wifes employers kept the position open) and around $7000 to do it legally,
wish i'd just come over illegally, we would have had more rights,

we were thinking of going back home anyway and this may just be the icing on the cake,

Whoah, not so fast!

There are exceptions to this general prohibition. The exceptions are as follows:

1. nonimmigrant aliens who possess a valid (unexpired) hunting license or permit lawfully issued by a State in the United States;

Go buy a hunting license, and you're golden.
4. On form Chl-78B, I only here coming 3 years this November. Would there be an issue on this form? I believe I am to follow the dates when I update my driving license.
5. On Chl-78c, would traffic tickets apply? I have 2, one covered by defensive driving and the other by paying the ticket.

much appreciated.
