I don't think it's true that all the people doing the attacking know the facts. You've got too much faith in the intelligence of the population. Why are mis-information attack ads so effective? We see both sides using them... They spread like wildfire. I do understand what you are saying but here is the rub. The ones who can be converted are not the ones who are actively trying to remove our arms. Know your enemy.
I agree with CPD, "us" versus "them" across the board just divides. It doesn't educate. It makes us look like extremists.
You are right that there are people who have chosen a side and can't be convinced, but don't lock everyone in with that group.
